thessaloniki.rb

Creating a Ruby meetup group in Thessaloniki was something I had in mind since 2010. After procrastinating infinitely, Vassilis Rizopoulos took the initiative several days ago and created a Minigroup called thessaloniki.rb

Vassilis invited me and several others he knew, to create the first members of the group. We met today at 19:00 at Ξάγναντο, had some beers, introduced each other, had some laughs, and wondered when we should do our first official meeting.

We were talking about September, taking into account the fact that we are in the middle of the summer and things are rather slow (as if they are not always in Greece). However, suddenly, John threw the idea of having an express first meeting next week!! We all agreed and we will try to find a place to meet and announce it by the end of the week.

I have also created a GitHub organization called thessaloniki-rb. We plan to create public repositories there that are created for the meetup presentations, or even small/big open source projects members might start, and maybe a wiki for the group itself.

Let me say that the guys that attended the first unofficial meeting, are all very interesting people and the whole team is really flexible and full of energy. I am sure we are going have a great time organizing the meetups.
